Street dance, Breakin & Parkour
Street dance
Street dance is an umbrella term used to describe dance styles that evolved outside of dance studios in spaces such as streets, parties, clubs etc. They are often improvisational and social in nature encouraging interaction and contact with spectators and the other dancers. These dances generally evolve out of urban and suburban spaces in some form of underground culture. Styles such Hip Hop, Lockin, Poppin, Waacking and House. Crews such as Diversity, Flawless and Plague are exceptional examples of street dance, Beat are lucky enough to have workshops with dancers from these crews.
Breakin
There are four primary elements that form breakin. These include toprock, downrock, power moves, and freezes/suicides. This involves footwork, floorwork and acrobatic moves. Breakin allows freedom of style and expression. Check out breakers such as Soul Mavericks, Found Nation, Top 9 and Beats guest teachers from SecondToNone.
Parkour
Parkour is a method of movement focused on moving around obstacles with speed and efficiency. Originally developed in France, the main purpose of the discipline is to teach participants how to move through their environment by vaulting, rolling, running, climbing and jumping and somersaulting. Scott and Adrian use our customized inflatable tumble track to teach somersaults and flips etc. Check the link to see our very own Parkour teacher Scott in action here.
